ST PATRICKS DAY IN PRAGUE
|
What a great City to celebrate this Irish traditional holiday. Prague can boast at present five Irish owned and run Irish bars, and all have something special prepared for St Patrick's Day, as do we, try our Guinness challenge. St Patrick was the patron Saint of Ireland, born in 385 AD and lived as a slave for a period in Ireland, then escaped his captivity to live in a monastery for 12 years after which he returned to Ireland.
He established many schools, monasteries and churches in Ireland, and lived the last years of his life in County Down where he died on the 17th March in the year 461. St Patricks Day is celebrated the world over, with green being the theme colour, green hats, green balloons, and even green beer. Prague`s Irish bars celebrate this day in big style, and even one bar Caffrey`s has a week long Irish Music festival to embrace St Patricks Day in Prague, with both local and visiting bands from Ireland participating. Prague presently has five 'real' Irish pubs, that is pubs owned and run by Irish people, below is a list and some general information about them.
